Importing STEP and BREP
You can import exact solids from STEP and BREP files and work with them alongside your own bodies.
Importing a file
- Choose File ▸ Import STEP or BREP… (⇧⌘I).
- Select a
.step,.stpor.brepfile.
Import runs in the background and is added to the project in one step, so a single ⌘Z removes it. Cancelling the file dialog leaves the project unchanged. A file that cannot be read is refused with a message, and nothing is added.
What you get
The imported geometry becomes a body in the project. Its exact faces and edges can be selected and measured like those of any other body, and you can:
- move it;
- apply supported modelling operations, such as a fillet on its edges;
- export it for printing.
The geometry is stored inside the .shack project, so reopening the project does not need the source file.
Limits
| Limit | Size |
|---|---|
| Source file | 64 MiB |
| Each stored solid | 16 MiB |
| Complete project file | 32 MiB |
The project limit can be reached before the per-solid limit, because the project also holds everything else you have made.
The source file's own sketches and feature history are not recreated: an imported solid arrives as finished geometry, and its original dimensions cannot be edited. A file containing several solids is imported as a single body. STEP and BREP are the only import formats.
