The workspace
A project window has five parts: the tool rail on the left, the bodies list beside it, the viewport in the middle, the Parameters inspector on the right and the status bar along the bottom. The viewport takes whatever space is left; the model gets the room.
Tool rail
The rail holds the actions you use most. Tools that act on a selection stay pressable when they do not apply; pressing one puts the reason in the status bar, and the same sentence appears as the button's tooltip.
| Button | What it does |
|---|---|
| Select | The default tool. Click a body, face, edge or vertex to select it; drag to orbit. |
| Sketch | Opens a sketch on the XY plane. See Sketching. |
| On face | Opens a sketch on the flat face you have selected. |
| Fillet, Chamfer, Shell | Act on the edges or face you have selected. See Fillet, chamfer and shell. |
| Union, Subtract, Intersect | Combine exactly two selected bodies. See Combining bodies. |
| Lock | Protects the selected bodies from changes. They stay visible and are still exported. |
| Export | Opens the export sheet. See Exporting for printing. |
| Project | Project settings: the printer, build plate and units saved in this project. |
| App | App settings: theme, default units, snapping, navigation and display preferences. |
| Help | Controls, the plate-with-a-hole recipe and the guided lessons. |
Bodies list
Every body in the project, with its sketches listed separately. Click a name to select a body; ⇧-click to add another. The order in which you select two bodies decides which is the base and which is the tool for a boolean, and the list shows both while two are selected.
Right-click a body for Rename…, Duplicate, Place on Build Plate and Delete. Right-click a sketch for Edit, Rename… and Delete.
Viewport
The viewport shows the exact geometry as it is now. Above it sits the selection filter (Auto, Body, Face, Edge, Vertex); to the right are the standard view buttons; an orientation widget shows which way the axes point. See Navigating the viewport and Selecting.
The grey outline on the ground plane is the build plate of the project's printer. It is a reference only: it never clips or scales a body. See Printers and the build plate.
Parameters inspector
The inspector edits whatever is selected.
- Features: a body's feature tree. Select a feature to edit its values, such as an extrusion's Distance.
- Position: the body's X, Y and Z placement.
- Measured: size, volume, triangle count, lowest point and whether the body is watertight.
- When a face, edge or vertex is selected, its measurements and the actions that apply to it.
Viewport figures use the display tessellation. The export sheet reports its own counts for the file it writes. Hidden bodies are not measured.
Status bar
From left to right: the unit everything on screen is shown in, the last message or the progress of a rebuild, what is selected and its measurement, the size of the selection, the number of triangles on screen and the number of bodies.
When a change cannot be built, the viewport keeps showing the last valid shape and the status bar says Last valid preview. That older shape is never exported.
Showing and hiding panels
Each panel can be hidden from the View menu, so the canvas can have the whole window.
| Item | Shortcut |
|---|---|
| Tools | ⌥⌘T |
| Bodies | ⌥⌘B |
| Parameters | ⌥⌘P |
| Canvas Controls | ⌥⌘O |
| Status Bar | ⌥⌘/ |
| Focus Canvas | ⇧⌘F |
| Restore Workspace | ⌥⌘R |
Focus Canvas hides every panel at once and remembers which were showing. Restore Workspace always brings everything back. None of this changes the project or adds an undo step.
On a narrow window the bodies list and the inspector move off the canvas and are reached from Bodies and Parameters buttons over it, rather than being squeezed into thin columns.
