Printers and the build plate

Each project records which printer it is for. The printer's build plate is drawn in the viewport so you can see whether a part fits.

Choosing a printer

A new project asks for its printer when you create it. To change it later, press Project in the tool rail or choose File ▸ Project Settings… (⇧⌘,).

Under Project Printer, search the list by manufacturer or model and choose one. Each listed printer links to the manufacturer's specification page, with the date its build volume was checked.

If your printer is not listed, choose Custom and enter the build volume's Width, Depth and Height.

The printer is saved with the project, not as an app preference, so different projects can target different printers. Changing it can be undone like any other edit.

The build plate is a reference

The plate outline never clips, moves or scales a body. Choosing a smaller printer does not shrink your model; it only changes the outline you compare it against.

Turn the outline off with Show plate if you do not need it.

Model ▸ Place on Build Plate lowers a selected body so that its lowest point rests on the plate. The Measured section of the inspector shows each body's size and lowest point.
